SimpleMind Pro can import several file formats.

Native SimpleMind mind maps (.smmx)

  • Local
Select the file on your computer, right click – “Open with” and select SimpleMind. Or use the import button in the local mind map explorer.
  • Cloud
You can open .smmx files in the cloud directly from the cloud tab.

FreeMind (.mm) and .opml files.

  • Local
Select the file on your computer, right click – “Open with” and select SimpleMind. Or use the import button in the local mind map explorer.
  • Cloud
You can import .mm and .opml files in the cloud directly from the cloud tab.

SimpleMind imports the basic structure of an .mm or .opml file. SimpleMind extracts text, notes and hierarchy from and ignores all other attributes such as links and icons. Because of this, you should only use this as a one-time import.

Text files (.txt)

This is an easy way to convert your text files into mind maps. Each new line in the text file creates a new topic, leading tabs are interpreted as hierarchy level.

Select the file on your computer, right click – “Open with” and select SimpleMind. Or use the import button in the local mind map explorer.
Alternatively, copy a text. In SimpleMind use “Edit” – “Paste” – “Paste text as list”. Each new line in the text file creates a new topic, leading tabs are interpreted as hierarchy level.

.Pdf bookmarks

SimpleMind Pro can import the table of contents of a .pdf. SimpleMind creates a new topic for each bookmark with a link back to that page in the .pdf. This requires an official Table of Contents in the .pdf.
To import the bookmarks of the table of contents of a PDF:

  • Via the Menu select “Mind Map” – “Import”.
  • Make sure the file type is "non-native files" or "import pdf bookmarks".
  • Select the PDF on your computer.
